Europe Part IV: Montenegro, Czech and Copenhagen

From Paris we flew to Montenegro. You may know that Steph's parents live in Montenegro doing mission work. We visited them during their first stay a few years ago and they've just moved back for another stint. We stayed nearly a week with them but didn't take much pictures, except for our day trip to Kotor, which is the most famous tourist destination in Montenegro with cruise ships even coming into the port city.

Somewhere near Kotor, can't remember where

Same

Steph with her parents

Old town Kotor with the ruins behind on the mountain

That island is Sveti Stefan - an uber fancy resort where Novak Djokovic recently got married

Sunset on the way back to Bar

From Montenegro we flew to Vienna, where we spent a few hours before hopping on a train for Cesky Krumlov in the Czech Republic.

Cesky Krumlov - a really cool medieval city

The castle in Cesky Krumlov

It's protected by bears in a moat!
We took a long walk out into the countryside
From Cesky Krumlov we took a fancy bus all the way to Prague.

Some old church in Prague

the Charles Bridge in Prague

Some famous spot on the bridge that you're supposed to rub for good luck or something

Old town Prague

Really crazy clock

We spent one afternoon doing an "escape room" - we made it out!
On our way back to the States we had a few hour layover in Copenhagen.

The Little Mermaid statue. For some reason this is very famous

Probably my favorite church we went to in all of Europe...

The inside had this amazing huge dome

Copenhagen was cool but crazy expensive. All I could afford was a hot dog!
And that's it for Europe. We headed back home for a few days before starting our journey back to New Zealand.

Europe Part III: Paris

I came to Paris for the bread. Well, I also thought Steph would love it, but I think the bread is a good enough reason in itself. The delicious, crunchy, chewy french baguettes that I remember from my family trip there 15 years ago, and it did not disappoint. I even based our accommodation on the bread - once the Airbnb listing said there were lots of good bakeries nearby I was sold. Turns out there are bakeries nearby every hotel in Paris, so don't sweat that one too much. At least once, if not twice per day we'd stop by one of these Boulangerie Patisseries to grab a baguette. Timing it right and getting a warm one right out of the oven might just be worth the flight. We had a pretty hectic few days in the City of Lights. Between munching on baked goodies, we decided to buy a museum pass that got us into all the museums for a few days. This, of course, leads to us trying to visit as many as possible, which leads to lots and lots of walking and subway rides, which leads to a pretty exhausting but fun few days.

The view from our studio with the Eiffel tower in the (far) distance

We had to walk up a LOT of stairs to get that view!

Inside the Louvre

Museum d'Orsay was my favorite museum. Plus it has this awesome clock!

St. Chappelle church has lots and lots and lots of stained glass

This is where Steph was meant to have lived - in the Palace Versaille. She'd let everyone eat cake all the time!

Inside the Hall of Mirrors. And no, it's not an effect of the mirrors, there were that many people in there
Maria Antoinette's fake peasant village

We really loved going to the top of the Notre Dame Cathedral

Quasimodo where are you!

See, City of Lights

From the top of the Arc de Triomphe

I always recommend going to see the famous landmarks at night - way better!

I even sprang for a fancy French dinner

We've never had much fancy food but it was delicious!

See? Way cooler at night. That's Notre Dame
